- being chartered, authorised, or certified by the relevant UK higher education-related body, and providing at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees) in a conventional, face-to-face, non-distance education style.

2021 Sub-rankings by provinces and territories
England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are the four nations that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom is further split into regions. The overwhelming majority of higher education institutions in the United Kingdom that follow the Topuniversitieslist selection criterion are situated in England, specifically in the most densely populated areas of London and South East England. Both UK countries and England areas with at least two higher education institutions matching the Topuniversitieslist placement criterion are included in the following Topuniversitieslist sub-rankings or league tables.
