What are Costa Rica’s most famous universities? Topuniversitieslist attempts to address this issue by releasing the Costa Rican University Ranking for 2022, which includes 55 Costa Rican higher-education institutions that fulfill the Topuniversitieslist quality criteria:

being chartered, registered, or certified by the relevant Costa Rican higher education-related institution, and providing at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees) in a conventional, face-to-face, non-distance education style.

2022 Sub-rankings by provinces and territories

Costa Rica is divided into seven provinces (Spanish: provincias), each of which is divided into 82 cantons (Spanish: cantones) and 473 districts (Spanish: districtos). The San José district, which includes the nation’s capital San José, is home to the overwhelming majority of higher education institutions that follow the Topuniversitieslist selection criterion. Both provinces with at least two Costa Rican higher education institutions matching the Topuniversitieslist placement criterion are included in the following Topuniversitieslist league tables or sub-rankings.
