What are India’s most well-known universities? Topuniversitieslist has published the 2021 Indian University Ranking, which includes 884 Indian higher-education institutions that fulfill the Topuniversitieslist selection criteria:
being chartered, registered, or certified by the relevant Indian higher education-related body, and providing at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees) in a conventional, face-to-face, non-distance education style.

2021 Sub-rankings by provinces and territories
The Republic of India is a territorial union split into 28 states and 8 union territories, with regions and smaller administrative units in between. The majority of higher education institutions that follow the Topuniversitieslist selection criterion are found in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, which are the most heavily populated states in India. Both administrative divisions of at least two Indian higher education institutions matching the Topuniversitieslist selection criterion are included in the following Topuniversitieslist sub-rankings or league tables.
